Experienced Counsel in Social Security Disability Claims

If you have suffered an injury or are battling an illness that keeps you from working, you may be entitled to compensation under the federal Social Security program. You want an experienced attorney to help you throughout the process, however, as a majority of claims are initially denied, most by people without legal representation.

Attorney J. Michael Matthews offers clients over 34 years of experience in personal injury litigation, including Social Security disability claims. He brings extensive knowledge of the law and the process to every case he takes. As a sole practitioner, he handles all matters related to your claim, from the initial filing through the gathering of evidence, from negotiated settlements through trial, if necessary. Contact attorney Matthews to arrange a free initial consultation.

Under the Social Security laws, your injury or illness must prevent you from working for a period of at least 12 months to qualify for benefits. You may be entitled to compensation for physical as well as mental injury or congenital illness. To qualify for SSDI (Social Security Disability Insurance), you must have paid 10 quarters of Social Security taxes and have 5 years of earned income. If you fail to meet these requirements, you may qualify for SSI (Supplemental Security Income).

In his Social Security practice, attorney Matthews advises clients who have SSDI claims, as well as those who with SSI cases. A sustaining member of the National Organization of Social Security Claimants Representatives (NOSSCR), Mr. Matthews works with clients at all stages of a Social Security claim, from the preparation and filing of an application to the appeal of a denial.

An application for Social Security disability benefits requires that you go through an extensive administrative process, one that is unlike the court process used for personal injury or the workers' compensation process. Because the process is unusual and complex, you don't want to go to a Social Security hearing before an administrative law judge without legal counsel.

At the offices of J. Michael Matthews, all cases are taken on a contingent fee basis. You will only incur attorney fees if you recover compensation for your losses.

For a lawyer with over three decades of experience handling personal injury claims, including Social Security disability cases, contact the law offices of J. Michael Matthews. He is available from 8:30 am until 5 pm, Monday through Friday and evenings and weekends by appointment.
